It is not the definitive guide but you will surely find something 😉
On the Internet, if you don’t get linked, you don’t exist! There are many ways to get external links for your link building strategy; some of the most extravagant. But, in the end, only some of them work.
When it comes to SEO, things are clear! Now, we SEO professionals say that, with the latest algorithm updates, Google values quality content. But this is false… As I tell you. Google’s algorithm does not value anything, because it does not understand. He does not understand the information. But it processes it. And since Google’ s artificial intelligence is not as “smart” as Matt Cutts and company would like it to be, they are looking for ways to decide if the content of a website is good or not. Well, in addition to a lot of internal factors of the content and the page, the feedback obtained in social networks, etc., one of his tricks to decide whether a content is of quality, is to look at the authority of the website. It does this by counting the number of links from other websites pointing to the main domain and to the specific page where the content is located. That’s why I still chuckle to myself (or laugh out loud, depending on how I catch myself) every time I hear that link building’s days are numbered. Because either the algorithm gets smart enough to sit down and have a chat with Punset, or link building has a long life ahead of it. Long live link building! 😉
Let’s look at the different ways to get external links. I’m not going to talk about links in social networks or directories, but about how to get links from influential websites.
1)Ask for links, by the face
One of the most common ways to get external links is to put a face to it, and ask for it openly. Sometimes it works, but when the goal is to link to a blog or website with a great reputation, a great PR, and a good pair of PA and DA, keep in mind that the webmaster will receive requests like yours almost daily. Good luck!
2) Guest blogging
Guest blogging also gave good results. Now that Google has sharpened its anti-spam sword, you have to be more careful. It is not advisable to put many links in a single post. One of the main disadvantages that I see is that you have to work hard on the content, so the effort to gain a single link is considerable. And if you do guest blogging to always say the same thing, trying to get more links with the minimum effort, in the end nobody will invite you to post on their blog.
3)Link exchange, quid pro quo
It was a good way to increase the number of external links, but now you have to be more cautious. If you suddenly get a bunch of links pointing to your site, and they all have a link back, you will raise suspicions.
4) Leave everything in the hands of Karma?
Another common way to get external links is to link to blogs in your niche, in the hope that they will return the favor. As in the philosophy of Karma, it is based on the idea that doing good will bring you a similar benefit. The problem, here, is that not everyone is as “cool” as we would like 😉
5)A bit of emotional blackmail
It consists of doing a piece of favor to someone without being asked. For example, tell you about an error in your on page SEO or warn you that you have broken links. In this way, you try to make the webmaster in question feel indebted to you and place a link to you. Some people are totally immune to emotional blackmail. Another disadvantage is that you have to work at it with no guarantee of success.
6)Sponsored posts
Sponsored posts is another way to place links on influential blogs. The difference with guest blogging is that, this time, it is not an exchange of free content in exchange for a link, but the publication of the post in question is paid.
7)Press releases
Newspapers, online news portals, etc., also need content. Links from some reputable newspapers transfer a lot of authority. The problem is that the media receive a lot of press releases, and getting yours published can be tricky. On the other hand, sending the same press release to many media in the hope of getting it to one of them is risky: imagine that several publish it; you will have duplicate content with the same links and the same anchor text pointing to your website.
8)Link baiting
It is about creating content of value, that generates controversy, that is funny, etc., in order to get natural links. It is a good technique, but it has two problems:
- It works in the medium to long term, which requires a lot of patience.
- The anchor text is beyond your control, so users can link to you with different terms. This is not all bad in this day and age, since it is now convenient to have a percentage of links that look casual. The most logical thing to do is to combine link baiting with other ways of getting external links that allow you to control the anchor text.
9)Buy links
As much as it bothers Google, it works!
Ah, so that’s it, there were not 9, but 10! I forgot the most important one on the list: to rely on the experience of an SEO company. SEO consultants have the necessary knowledge and expertise to design a link building strategy without running the risk of Google penalization. This is one of the things we do at rodanet.com’s SEO consulting service, and I assure you that it works 😉
