Long tail keywords are the natural evolution of SEO. Little by little they have been conquering the online world, although there are still some who do not use them, or do not use them correctly. The long tail SEO… Wow! How bad that sounded… It’s your own fault, you’re all so ill-conceived! :-p I start again: Search engine optimization with long tail (better) keywords was born as a response to the constant semantic advances of Google’s algorithm. Until some time ago, SEO techniques were much more aggressive, and as far as content was concerned, they consisted of stuffing web pages with keywords so that search engines would not doubt about the words for which you wanted to rank in Google and other search engines. Yesterday’s abuses marked tomorrow’s (i.e., today’s) restrictions. And the fact is that many of them got carried away, and Google ended up considering these practices as spam. Keyword stuffing, to be more specific. In addition, in its perseverance, Google has been perfecting the search algorithm and adjusting it to the ways in which users consult information. Increasingly, Internet users used phrases, long expressions, to refine search results as much as possible. That is why knowing some tools to use long tail keywords correctly is so important. Shall we go a little deeper? Keywords can be longer or shorter, generic or more specific. Here are some examples:
- led tv
- led tv offer
- sony bravia 50 inch led tv sony bravia 50 inch on sale
On the first point, we have a generic term. In the second, we observe a more specific phrase. And in the third case, we have a full-fledged long tail keyword. Long tail keywords are phrases that match very specific searches. You may be thinking that the more specific a keyword is, the fewer Internet users will perform searches that match it. It is true. But it is still in your interest to use them.

Advantages of using long tail keywords in your SEO strategy
Ranking for generic keywords can bring you many benefits. The problem is that the more general the keyword is, the more difficult it is to get a good positioning in search engines. Using longer sentences and expressions will allow you to:
- Save yourself useless efforts trying to position yourself for generic keywords in a niche full of competition.
- Get quality traffic, that is, users really interested in what you offer. On that in particular, and not on anything else.
- Keep the opportunity to position yourself also for specific keywords. Why? Very simple. Note that, in the example above, 50 inch sony bravia led tv on sale includes led tv and led tv on sale.
How to use long tail keywords
It is very easy. In the title, and the title, description and h1…h6 tags, they will have more weight in the eyes of search engines. But they can also be inserted in the content. Moreover, as they are long phrases, you can introduce several of them camouflaging them, with a very natural result, but be careful, if you want to be a spamer, you will succeed! Try to introduce synonyms of the generic keywords that you include in the long tail. Entering long tail keywords is essential for all types of web pages, and offers many possibilities for online stores and blogs. In e-commerce businesses, each title of each product can be a long tail in itself; something similar happens with the titles of blog posts, since a good way to attract users can be by introducing this type of keywords in style titles. how to.
Tools and tricks to find long tail keywords
There are many ways to locate them. I am going to show you some of them, from the most pedestrian to the most sophisticated. Google’s “Autocomplete”: this is the function that adds text as we type words in the search tab. These suggestions do not appear randomly, but are based on searches made by other users.
As you can see in the screenshot, Google anticipates our movements, showing us words that could be useful in our search. In this case, the terms are related to the location of the service we are looking for. “Related searches”, also from Google: for certain queries, similar searches appear at the bottom of the results page.
The most interesting thing is that, by clicking on each of the related searches, you can access another page of results where, at the end, new related searches will also appear, with increasingly longer results. Adwords “Keyword Planner”: it is the most used tool. Although it is not the best for finding long tail. As you know, this is an application that Google makes available to everyone, free of charge, to createPay Per Click advertising campaigns. But, unless we are creating campaigns for our clients, SEOs use it for the sake of it, and without creating ads 😉 Just to know the volume of searches of the terms and to obtain alternatives that will allow us to achieve a good organic SEO positioning. As I say, it is not the best tool, and it is advisable to contrast its results with at least one other program. To use it, all you have to do is register with Google Adwords. Once you have done so, you will see a page like the one below.
As you can see, in the “Tools” tab, you must select the “Keyword Planner” option. You will be taken to another page, where you can choose various functions. To get started, select the “Search for new keyword ideas and ad groups” tab in the menu on the left. You can customize the information filters to further refine your searches.
In the image you can see the suggestions provided by the tool, with the average number of monthly searches. It also makes an assessment of the competition (high, medium or low) for each term, but don’t pay too much attention to it, because it only refers to Adwords advertisers. The Keyword Planner is a basic tool, and you will also use it to get the volume of traffic from the long tails you find with the other ways we have described. Soovle: is a tool that can be accessed by simply visiting the page. No downloads or registrations. Soovle returns relevant keywords, both generic and long tail, in Google, Bing, Yahoo, Youtube, Amazon, etc., from a search. Very easy to use!
Look at the results when you enter “used cars”. Now, as you have already learned, you should go to Google Keyword Planner to analyze the traffic in each case. Ubersuggest: similar to Soovle in ease of use. It is also free and online. You can see in the following screenshot how it works.
Long Tail Keyword-Tool: another simple free tool. You can obtain long tail keywords from generic words. Again, you will have to check the volume of searches to keep the ones you are interested in and discard the rest. We could go on listing tools and tricks to discover long tails, but with what I have told you, you can already create an extensive list of terms that will bring you a lot of traffic, and good traffic! Do you use other tools? Tell us about it in the comments! And if you found the article useful, how about some feedback on social media? 😉
